Occupational therapy (OT) is a healthcare profession focused on helping people participate fully in the activities or "occupations" that make up daily life. That includes self-care (getting up and dressed, eating, personal hygiene), productivity (work, managing a household, finances), and leisure (hobbies, social connection, rest). OT is used across the lifespan, and because it focuses on what's meaningful to the person, care and support is completely personalised.
Mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, PTSD, and burnout don't just affect mood they affect function. They can make everyday tasks like keeping up with washing, cooking, holding down a routine, or even leaving the house feel genuinely out of reach. That's where OT comes in.
Rather than treating a diagnosis in isolation, an occupational therapist looks at the whole picture: the person, the activity they're trying to do, and the environment they're doing it in. Therapy might involve building a skill directly, changing how a task is approached, or adapting the environment so a task becomes achievable again. They want to help you to achieve your goals and live a life that is meaningful to you.
Sane is a registered Occupational Therapist with a decade of experience in mental health, neurodivergence, and the daily activities that shape our lives.
Over the past ten years, Sian’s career has spanned clinical and community settings and roles, building a versatile toolkit to support individuals facing complex life challenges.
At the core of Sian’s practice is the belief that occupations are the essence of life. “Occupation” goes beyond traditional employment; it encompasses everything a person does to occupy their time, look after themselves, express creativity, and connect with their community. What we do ultimately shapes who we are.
Sian believes that everyone, regardless of background or neurotype, has the right to access and participate in the occupations that matter to them. When mental health struggles or systemic barriers disrupt daily life, Sian helps individuals advocate for, adapt, and reclaim those vital parts of their identity.
Assess — We dig into the real story: motor skills, sensory processing, cognition, emotional regulation — and how they actually show up in your day-to-day, not just on a checklist.
Plan — No generic goals here. We sit down with you to figure out what actually matters — getting through a workday, cooking dinner without it feeling like a marathon, driving somewhere new — then build a plan around it.
Build routines — Mornings, meals, work tasks, commuting, winding down at night — the daily grind that can feel like a battle. We help turn chaos into a workable rhythm.
Adapt environments — Sometimes the fix isn’t the person — it’s the setup. A tweak to your desk, lighting, tools, or how a task is broken down can turn “impossible” into “no problem.”
Build skills directly — Hands-on work on fine and gross motor skills, sensory regulation, focus, and self-regulation strategies — practical tools for real situations, not theory.
Collaborate — We don’t work in a bubble. Partnering with your family, employer, or other clinicians means strategies actually stick — at home, at work, everywhere.
Occupational Therapy is the science and art of how you want to live a meaningful life.
